How we work

Your in-house legal team, without the headcount.

  1. Meet your commercial solicitor

You're paired with one of our in-house solicitors, a specialist in commercial law who takes the time to know your business, your sector and how you like to work. One person, accountable to you, from day one.

  2. Get ahead of risk

Together you map the legal risks in your business, from contracts and employment to data protection, and build a roadmap that fixes what's urgent and prevents what's next.

  3. Use us like your own legal team

Bounce a quick idea off your solicitor before you sign, sanity-check a clause in minutes, or bring us into the room for the longer plays like fundraising, hiring and expansion.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often, on how the subscription works, what it covers and how we charge.

Lawyerly is a modern legal service for UK businesses. You pay a fixed monthly fee and get ongoing access to a dedicated commercial solicitor, instead of paying by the hour. We handle the day-to-day commercial legal work most SMEs need: contracts, employment, company matters, compliance and more.

Traditional firms work reactively, charge by the hour and can feel hard to access for everyday needs. We're designed to be the opposite: predictable, proactive and easy to use. You get subscription-based legal support and fixed-fee services through our Client Hub, with clear scope, transparent pricing and direct access to experienced solicitors.
Our solicitors are individually regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and bound by its Code of Conduct, and we carry professional indemnity insurance covering their work. Lawyerly itself isn't an SRA-authorised firm, which is the modern legal services model the SRA introduced in 2019, but the solicitors who deliver your work remain personally accountable to the same professional standards.
Yes. You're paired with a dedicated, SRA-regulated solicitor whose commercial experience fits your business, and they handle every matter you bring to us. Over time, they get to know how you operate and where the pressure points are. They draw on the wider team for expertise behind the scenes, but they remain your single point of contact and personally sign off your advice.

AI helps us with first-pass review, research and admin. It never replaces a solicitor's judgement, and a qualified solicitor signs off every piece of advice that leaves us. Your data is never used to train third-party AI models, and all processing complies with UK GDPR.

Every plan includes the commercial legal services UK SMEs rely on day to day: contracts and commercial agreements, employment and HR, corporate governance, IP, privacy and compliance, and everyday legal advice across the business.

A few areas sit outside the subscription. We don't undertake reserved legal activities like court litigation, trial advocacy, criminal defence, immigration or conveyancing, and we don't advise on regulated financial services, specialist tax structuring or personal matters for directors and shareholders individually. Larger corporate transactions such as M&A are handled as fixed-fee projects alongside the subscription. Disbursements such as court and filing fees are passed through at cost.

We handle these as fixed-fee projects alongside your subscription. Large, time-intensive work such as M&A, business sales and complex investment rounds sits outside your monthly fee, but your dedicated solicitor scopes the work, gives you a written fixed-fee quote and runs the project from the same Client Hub. Same team, full cost certainty.
Our solicitors are qualified in England & Wales, and most UK commercial contracts use E&W jurisdiction, so this rarely creates an issue. Where a matter is governed by Scots or Northern Ireland law (typically employment, property or litigation with a local connection), we refer to trusted local counsel with a structured handover.
Yes. We advise on the UK side of cross-border matters: your UK contracts, your UK entity, UK GDPR and UK employment law. For foreign-law questions, we coordinate with a network of overseas counsel and bring their advice into a single workstream, so you only deal with us. Foreign counsel fees are quoted separately before instruction.

Your Client Hub is the central place for your subscription. You can book calls or video meetings with your solicitor, open and track legal projects, share documents securely and message us on live chat. Email and phone are available too.

We acknowledge new requests within 24 hours, and substantive work like advice, drafting or contract review typically lands within 7 days depending on complexity. Many routine matters move faster. We agree turnaround times upfront on bigger projects, and we tell you straight away if anything will take longer than expected.
Of course. Many subscribers use us for day-to-day commercial work and continue to instruct a specialist firm for sector-specific work, contentious litigation or capital transactions. We're happy to coordinate where it helps, including structured handovers.
Once you subscribe, we open your Client Hub the same day and start onboarding, which includes standard identity and compliance checks. Most clients are fully set up within 20 minutes, and your solicitor reaches out during this period to schedule a first session. Urgent matters can usually be picked up as soon as onboarding clears.
If your turnover changes materially during the year, talk to us. Plan changes apply from the next billing cycle and run forward, not retroactively. You stay on your current plan in the meantime, and we'll work out together whether a move makes sense now or at renewal.
Your subscription rolls forward on the same cadence you chose, monthly or annual, unless you tell us before the renewal date that you want to stop. We remind you at least 30 days before renewal. We always give advance notice if anything is changing on pricing.

A subscription is a 12-month commitment, but we don't want you locked into something that isn't working. Cancel within your first 30 days and we'll refund what you've paid.

No. The monthly fee is the monthly fee. The only additions are third-party costs passed through at cost (filing fees, registry fees, counsel's fees and similar) and any project work outside subscription scope, always quoted as a fixed fee in writing before we start. No charges for emails, calls or short queries, and no admin or file-opening fees.

Yes. The monthly fee is a deductible business expense for your UK company. VAT applies and is reclaimable if you're VAT-registered.
