Lawyerly is a commercial legal company providing subscription and fixed-fee legal services to businesses in England and Wales. Our SRA-regulated solicitors handle day-to-day commercial legal work (contracts, employment, IP, compliance, leases, disputes) for a fixed monthly or annual fee, delivered through the Client Hub.
We're built for businesses that want predictable pricing and a named solicitor who knows their company, rather than hourly billing and a different voice on the phone each time.
No. Lawyerly is a commercial legal company, not an SRA-regulated law firm. The solicitors who deliver your work are individually authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and remain personally bound by the SRA Code of Conduct.
This structure was made possible by SRA reforms allowing qualified solicitors to deliver legal services through alternative models. It means we handle most day-to-day commercial legal work, but we do not carry out reserved legal activities (court representation, conveyancing, probate, notarial acts).
Yes. Every solicitor delivering your work is individually authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. You will have one named solicitor overseeing your matters; where specialist input is needed, they may bring in a colleague. We also carry professional indemnity insurance for their work.
A traditional law firm is regulated by the SRA as a firm and can carry out reserved legal activities such as court representation and conveyancing. It usually bills by the hour, so the cost moves with the work.
Lawyerly is regulated differently. The company is not an SRA-authorised firm, but every solicitor who works on your matters is individually regulated. We focus on non-reserved commercial legal work and price it as a subscription or a fixed fee, so you know the cost before we start. For day-to-day commercial work the experience is the same as instructing a law firm. If a matter does need to go to court, we appoint and brief a regulated litigation firm on your behalf, negotiate their fees and stay alongside you through the case.
Founders and growing businesses across England and Wales, from pre-incorporation startups to established companies with turnover of up to around £10m. Our clients include technology and AI businesses, creative and media agencies, e-commerce and retail brands, hospitality and events businesses, healthcare, beauty and wellness practices, sport and fitness operators, franchisors and franchisees, education and childcare providers, and companies in building, construction and commercial real estate.
Yes. Our solicitors use AI tools for tasks such as research, drafting, summarising, and document review. The solicitor remains professionally responsible for the legal advice and the work we deliver. The AI providers we use are listed in our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum.
A legal subscription gives your business ongoing access to your own solicitor for a fixed monthly or annual fee, across a defined scope of commercial legal work. Every plan includes unmetered everyday legal advice: questions, second opinions and check-in calls do not count against anything.
Each plan then carries an allowance of matters for the year, where a matter is one complete piece of work with a clear deliverable, such as a shareholders' agreement drafted or a supplier contract reviewed and marked up. Launch includes 6 matters a year, Accelerate 12, Scale 18 and Enterprise is unlimited, subject to fair use. The subscription term is 12 months from checkout.
Plans start from £379 per month plus VAT. There are four plans, sized to turnover and legal needs: Launch (£379, for founders and early-stage businesses under £500k turnover), Accelerate (£579, growing businesses under £2m), Scale (£879, typically £2m to £5m) and Enterprise (£1,579, typically £5m to £10m). Paying annually saves 10 per cent. The full comparison is on our pricing page.
For businesses that need legal input more than once or twice a year, yes. An hour with a traditional commercial solicitor now costs several hundred pounds, and a contract review on hourly billing often runs to more than £1,000. A legal subscription gives you a known monthly cost, faster turnaround, and a solicitor who already knows your business, so you do not pay for repeat onboarding every time. If your business only needs one legal task a year, a fixed-fee service is usually a better fit.
A fixed-fee legal service is a one-off piece of legal work priced before it begins: a specific contract, a defined project or a particular matter. We issue a written proposal setting out scope, assumptions, fee and timing, and work starts once the invoice is paid and onboarding checks are complete.
Fixed fees suit businesses with a single project rather than ongoing needs, and subscribers who need something outside their plan, such as buying or selling a business or raising investment. Subscribers receive a discount on every fixed-fee project: 10 per cent on Launch, 20 on Accelerate, 25 on Scale and 30 on Enterprise.
No. Your subscription fee is the price you pay. The exceptions, flagged in advance, are: VAT where applicable, external third-party costs (filing fees, expert fees, courier charges), and any work outside scope that you ask us to handle separately under a fixed fee.
Everyday advice is unmetered on every plan: there is no cap on questions, second opinions or check-in calls. Matters come out of your plan's annual allowance (6 on Launch, 12 on Accelerate, 18 on Scale, unlimited on Enterprise). Fair use only becomes relevant if the volume, urgency or complexity of work goes well beyond the pattern the plan is designed for. If we think that is happening, we will raise it with you directly and agree a practical way forward, which may be a plan change or a fixed fee for the piece of work in question.
Every plan includes the commercial legal work a UK business needs day to day:
- Legal advice and guidance
- Commercial contracts, terms and conditions, NDAs, supplier and customer agreements
- Employment contracts, policies and HR matters
- Corporate housekeeping: resolutions, shareholders' agreements, founder agreements and IP assignments
- UK GDPR, data protection and compliance policies
- Trade mark searches, applications and brand protection
- Franchise documentation
- A proactive legal roadmap built with your solicitor
Some items depend on the plan. Pre-action dispute support, including debt recovery, is included from Accelerate upwards. Commercial leases of up to three years are included from Accelerate; on Scale and Enterprise longer leases are handled with specialist property counsel, and we contribute up to £1,200 towards their fees per lease. The official UK IPO fee for one trade mark application in one class each year is covered on Accelerate, Scale and Enterprise; on Launch we still handle the search, application and strategy, and you pay the IPO fee. The plan comparison on the pricing page sets all of this out line by line.
Some work sits outside the subscription because it needs specialist representation, a regulated firm, or its own scoped project:
- Court proceedings and other reserved legal activities
- Buying or selling a business
- Investment rounds and SEIS/EIS work
- Conveyancing
- Tax, accounting, immigration and other non-legal advice
- Advice on laws outside England and Wales
If something falls outside your plan we will say so. Most of it we can take on as a fixed-fee project at your subscriber discount (for example our M&A and Raising investment services), and where it belongs with a specialist we will point you to the right one and stay involved.
A matter is one complete piece of legal work with a clear deliverable: a shareholders' agreement drafted, a supplier agreement reviewed and marked up, a set of website terms and a privacy policy prepared, or a pre-action dispute dealt with. Questions, second opinions and check-in calls are not matters and do not count towards your allowance.
We do not run court proceedings ourselves. We deal with disputes early: assessing your position, responding to threats and complaints, letters before action, negotiation and settlement, and pre-action debt recovery. If a matter does need to go to court, our Litigation co-ordination and support service appoints and briefs a regulated litigation firm on your behalf, negotiates their fees, and stays alongside you through the case. The litigation firm's fees are your own cost.
Yes, as fixed-fee projects rather than part of the subscription. Buying or selling a business runs in phases, priced per phase and agreed before each one starts, for UK deals up to £1m. Raising investment includes SEIS/EIS readiness, HMRC advance assurance preparation, SEIS and EIS rounds, seed and pre-Series A rounds and convertible instruments. Subscribers receive their plan discount on all of it.
Yes. Founders can either subscribe (Launch is designed for early-stage businesses) or buy a one-off startup legal pack: Set up, Launch-ready or Investor-ready, each available from scratch or as a review of documents you already hold. If you subscribe within nine months of completing a pack, a credit of 10 to 30 per cent is applied to your first subscription year.
Before any work begins, your solicitor works out what your business needs and in what order, and you build a legal roadmap together. On Scale that becomes a quarterly proactive review; on Enterprise it is monthly. It is how we get ahead of problems rather than reacting to them.
Our solicitors are qualified in England and Wales and advise on the laws of England and Wales. Most UK commercial contracts are governed by them, so this rarely causes a problem. For cross-border matters we handle the UK side (your UK contracts, entity, employment and UK GDPR position) and point you to specialists for the foreign-law elements.
The Client Hub is the online workspace where you interact with your solicitor. From a single login, you can message your solicitor, book consultations, upload documents, track matter progress, view drafts and completed work, and manage billing.
When you subscribe online we open your Client Hub the same day and start onboarding, which includes a short identity check. Most clients are fully set up within about 20 minutes, and your solicitor gets in touch during that time to book a first session. After that you log in at app.lawyerly.co, or from the Client Hub link at the top of any page on this site.
You will have one named solicitor overseeing your matters. They handle the bulk of the work and stay your main point of contact. Where a matter needs specialist input, your solicitor may bring in a colleague, but they remain accountable for your work. On Enterprise you have a dedicated senior solicitor and a commercial associate.
Yes. Most communication runs through the Client Hub because it keeps everything in one place, but we also work by email, phone, and video call where it makes sense.
We acknowledge new requests within 24 hours. Substantive work such as advice, drafting or a contract review typically lands within seven days depending on complexity, and many routine matters move faster. On bigger projects we agree turnaround upfront, and we tell you straight away if anything will take longer.
Of course. Many subscribers use us for day-to-day commercial work and keep a specialist firm for specific areas. Where it helps, we work alongside them.
Existing clients: send a message through the Client Hub, or email info@lawyerly.co. New enquiries: book a complimentary consultation or email info@lawyerly.co. You can also call us on 0203 442 8479. We reply within one business day.
Tell us. We would much rather hear about it directly and put it right. Our Complaints Policy sets out how to raise a concern, how we investigate, and the timescales we follow.
Subscription fees are collected automatically through Stripe using the card you provide at checkout, monthly or annually. Annual billing is paid in one instalment with a 10 per cent discount. Monthly billing is a payment schedule for the 12-month subscription, not a rolling month-to-month arrangement.
Every plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee: cancel within your first 30 days and we refund what you have paid. At the end of the 12 months the subscription renews on the same cadence unless you tell us before the renewal date; we remind you at least 30 days beforehand.
Once we have confirmed the scope of a fixed-fee matter, we issue an invoice. You can pay by card on file via Stripe, through a payment link, or by bank transfer. Substantive work starts once payment has cleared and onboarding checks are complete.
Some matters involve third-party costs (filing fees, registry fees, expert fees, courier charges, counsel's fees on the rare occasion specialist input is needed). These sit outside our fees and you pay them in addition. We flag them in advance.
Yes, where it applies. Our fees are quoted exclusive of VAT, which is added at the prevailing rate. The fee is a deductible business expense, and VAT is reclaimable if you are VAT-registered.
Talk to us. If your turnover changes materially, we move you to the right plan from the next billing cycle. Plans are sized to turnover so that the fee stays proportionate to the business.

Willem co-founded Lawyerly after twenty years of running and advising businesses, most of which were spent as a client of law firms rather than a member of one. He had seen how legal advice tends to arrive: late, priced by the hour, and detached from the commercial decision that prompted it. Lawyerly grew out of a conviction that it could be done differently.
He read law and marketing at university and later completed MIT Sloan's executive programme in artificial intelligence and business strategy. His career before Lawyerly took in two advertising agencies, which he led through the industry's move to digital, several years in digital publishing, and a period in international development, working on programmes across South East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
At Lawyerly he is responsible for growth and for the client experience, ensuring our clients receive the legal support they need.
